MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) – The races to become the next governors of Wisconsin and Georgia could be tight, if sets of fresh polls are any indicator.

In Wisconsin, incumbent GOP Gov. Scott Walker currently holds a one-point lead over Democrat Mary Burke, according to a Friday Rasmussen Reports survey.

Burke won the right to challenge Walker in Tuesday’s primary, defeating fellow Democrat state Rep. Bret Hulsey.

The poll shows voters only favor Walker over Burke by 48-47 percent margin.

The survey of 750 likely voters in Wisconsin was conducted on Wednesday and Thursday.

In Georgia, Republican Gov. Nathan Deal holds a five-point lead over his Democratic challenger, Jason Carter, according to a Thursday Insider Advantage poll.

The survey of 719 likely voters shows that if the election were held today, voters would select Deal over Carter by a 43-39 percent margin.

The poll further shows 7 percent of voters favor Libertarian Andrew Hunt and 11 percent remain undecided.
