Mich. governor holds five-point edge over Democratic challenger

LANSING, Mich. (Legal Newsline) – A new voter survey shows Gov. Rick Snyder continues to lead his Democratic challenger, former U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer, in the polls.

According to a Wednesday Mitchell Poll, Snyder leads Schauer by a 47-42 percent margin, which is up from a July 25 poll showing Snyder leading by four points (43-39 percent).

“Governor Snyder has gained a little support and now leads by 5 percent, up 1 percent since our last survey in mid-July,” said Steve Mitchell, chairman of Mitchell Research & Communications.

“The Governor’s job approval moved up to 58 percent from 56 percent in our last two polls. However his favorable-unfavorable rating is 49-40 percent. Schauer is at 35-27 percent, higher than it was in June when it was only 24-22 percent.”

In the U.S. Senate race, Democratic Congressman Gary Peters now leads former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land by a 45-44 percent margin, the poll shows.

“It’s clear that the increase in media spending by Land over the past two weeks is impacting the race again,” said Mitchell. “She is only 1 percent behind. In our last survey she trailed by 5 percent, so the see-saw battle shows that ad buying is impacting this race.”
