MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced an $80,000 settlement on Tuesday with an Eau Claire company over alleged environmental protection violations.
WRR Environmental Services Company, a licensed hazardous waste treatment and storage facility, holds a facility air pollution permit and operates a number of solvent management processes in Eau Claire County.
WRR, however, in violation of state environmental protection laws, built a fuel-blending area without the required construction permit, operated a fueled blending process without a permit and operated a facially with cracked and pitted secondary containment systems, Van Hollen said.
Under the terms of the settlement, WRR agreed to correct the violations and to maintain the facility in a safe and lawful manner going forward. The company also agreed to engage a consultant who will conduct an environmental compliance audit to identify and rectify additional harmful violations.
If the violations that were identified are not corrected by WRR, the company may be subject to up to $60,000 in additional forfeitures and penalties.
