LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline)-California attorney general candidate Rocky Delgadillo has joined the law offices of Goodwin Procter LLP, after serving eight years as the Los Angeles city attorney.
Delgadillo, who left office in June after he could not seek reelection, is joining the firm's 400-lawyer litigation department, Goodwin Procter said in a statement.
The law firm specializes in corporate and real estate law, litigation, financial services, private equity, technology, intellectual property, tax and products liability, its Web site says.
"We are both pleased and proud to have Rocky Delgadillo join our California practice," said Lewis Feldman, the firm's Los Angeles chair. "He is not only a skilled manager and litigator, but his more than 20 years of experience and expertise in economic development transactions and government law and policy should also significantly benefit the clients of our firm."
Delgadillo is considering a run to succeed fellow Democrat California Attorney General Jerry Brown, who is widely expected to run for governor in 2010.
In 2006, Delgadillo made an unsuccessful bid for attorney general, losing to Brown 63 percent to 37 percent in the Democratic primary. Since January, Delgadillo has raised more than $936,000 in contributions.
Brown, a former governor, can seek to replace termed-out Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger because California's term limits law was passed after he left the governor's office in 1983.
Other Democrats running for state attorney general include state Assemblymen Ted Lieu of Torrance and Pedro Nava of Santa Barbara, Assembly Majority Leader Alberto Torrico of Newark, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris and Chris Kelly, chief privacy officer for the Web site Facebook.
On the Republican side, Sen. Tom Harman of Huntington Beach and 2006 attorney general candidate and former state lawmaker Chuck Poochigian are considering runs.
