Nevada AG tapped to help Obama capture Latino vote

Catherine Cortez Masto (D)

LAS VEGAS (Legal Newsline)-Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto is among a handful of influential Latinos tapped to rally support for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, a spokeswoman told Legal Newsline.

Masto was named Tuesday to Obama's Nevada Latino Leadership Committee, the attorney general's political director, Erin Bilbray-Kohn, said.

Masto, whose father is Mexican and mother is Italian, is one of several high-profile Latinos in Nevada who will be "working very hard to help rally the Latino vote in Nevada to support Barack Obama," she said.

In addition Masto, also on the Nevada leadership team is Eddie Escobedo, the publisher of the Spanish-language newspaper El Mundo, state Assemblyman Mo Denis and state Sen. Bob Coffin.

Masto, a Democratic superdelegate, and the others will help the campaign coordinate outreach efforts to Latino voters, who are widely expected to be a key voting bloc in the Silver State in November.
