AUSTIN, Texas (Legal Newsline) - Although the Democratic Governors Association refuses to back her bid for governor, it seems Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis can count on celebrities for support.

In an email to supporters, Davis announced she would be having dinner with one of her "favorite actresses," Connie Britton, on May 18 at the Liz Lambert's Hotel Saint Cecilia in Austin.

Britton played Tami Taylor on Friday Night Lights and is currently playing Rayna James on Nashville.

"Of course, I'm very excited about it," Davis says in the announcement. "But I'm even more excited that I won't be there alone: one of you could get to join me. So click here to make a contribution today, and you'll be automatically entered to win a ticket to the hottest event in town..."

Folk singer Patty Griffin will be serenading attendees at the event.

Britton and Griffin aren't the first stars to attend a Davis fundraiser.

On April 27, Willie Nelson performed at a fundraiser held at the home of Houston trial lawyer Steve Mostyn.

The Democratic Governors Association is refusing to fund Davis' campaign.

On April 29, the DGA withheld Davis from its targeted race list for 2014.

The state senator will square off against Attorney General Greg Abbott in the general election.
