NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Legal Newsline) - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced a court order Tuesday against a former Northampton car dealership and its principals after they allegedly failed to provide car titles to customers.

Northampton Motor Classics LLC, Andrew Feuerstein, the dealership's owner, and Michael Dale, the dealership's manager, allegedly violated state consumer protection laws by selling vehicles without delivering titles, failing to pay off loans or trade-in vehicles, accepting payment to register vehicles without doing so, instructing consumers to use dealer plates illegally and failing to buy service contracts for consumers who paid for them. Coakley's office filed a lawsuit against the defendants in November 2012.

Under the terms of a default judgment, the defendants must pay more than $22,600 in consumer restitution and $73,000 in civil penalties and attorney fees.

"This dealership took advantage of consumers looking to make a significant investment by purchasing a car," Coakley said. "We are pleased that this judgment has ordered Northampton Motor Classics to pay restitution to those that were harmed by this business' misleading practices."

As part of the judgment, the defendants are permanently enjoined from accepting or soliciting consumer deposits and engaging in any business involving the sale, leasing or marketing of motor vehicles in the state of Massachusetts.
