JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) -- The chairman of Missouri's Democratic Party has stepped down, and says he may be interested in running for attorney general in 2016.
Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders told The Associated Press his focus, at the moment, is on getting re-elected next year.
However, he said it would be "hard" not to serious consider a bid for attorney general.
Sanders previously worked as Jackson County's prosecutor before being elected county executive.
He was first elected chairman of the state's Democratic Party in November 2011.
Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones also is mulling a run for attorney general.
Jones, a Republican and who is term limited, said last month he is being "greatly encouraged" to consider the Attorney General's Office.
Current Attorney General Chris Koster, a Republican-turned-Democrat, has said he intends to run for governor in 2016.
