Report: U.S. SC justice's son clerking for D.C. Circuit judge

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) -- Philip Alito, son of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, is reportedly clerking for a federal appeals court judge.



The National Law Journal first reported the news Tuesday.


Philip Alito is listed as a law clerk for Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, according to Leadership Directories Inc.


According to its website, LDI provides contact information for the leaders of major U.S. government, business, professional and nonprofit organizations.


Kavanaugh was appointed to the D.C. Circuit in 2006. Prior to that, he worked as an attorney in the U.S. Solicitor General's Office. He also served as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and associate counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.


Philip Alito is one of Samuel Alito's children. He, and his wife Martha-Ann, also have a daughter, Laura.


Samuel Alito has served on the nation's highest court since 2006.
