NEWARK, N.J. (Legal Newsline) - New Jersey Acting Attorney General John Hoffman filed a nine-count lawsuit on Monday against three home improvement businesses for allegedly engaging in illegal business practices.

Hoffman's Division of Consumer Affairs received approximately three dozen complaints about J&L Glass & Construction Corp., Glass Dynamix Corp. and Its All Glass Corp. The companies allegedly failed to deliver glass table tops or incorrectly installed replacement shower doors and glass incorrectly, causing damage to the consumers' homes. Hoffman sued the three companies and also named Evelyn Perez and Joel Tobia as defendants.

“Consumers often were forced to hire other contractors to fix the allegedly shoddy work performed by these defendants, and, in some cases, as described in the complaint, repairs had to be made in order to stop water leaks from causing further damage to their homes,” Hoffman said. “We will not tolerate disregard for the rights of homeowners and our consumer protection laws.”

The lawsuit alleges the home improvement companies violated the Delivery of Household Furniture and Furnishings regulations, as well as the Home Improvement Contractors' Registration Act. The suit seeks to dissolve the companies' corporate charters, reimburse affected consumers and bar Tobia and Perez from owning or operating another home improvement contracting company in the future.
