JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced an order on Tuesday against the owners of a Kansas City-based auto shop after the shop allegedly advertised sold and stolen vehicles to Missourians.

Clark's Automotive and its owners, Amado and Alfredo Navarro, also allegedly resold vehicles with active liens for scrap metal, defrauding the vehicles' creditors. Koster filed a lawsuit against the Navarros on April 2.

"Automobiles are among the most expensive purchases for any consumer," Koster said. "My office stands ready to protect Missourians from fraudulent dealers selling stolen vehicles."

Koster obtained a preliminary injunction in Jackson County Circuit Court that prevents Clark's from selling, advertising or transferring motor vehicles in the state of Missouri. The order also keeps the shop from disposing of any motor vehicle or selling any vehicle for scrap metal.

In addition to the injunction, Koster's lawsuit seeks restitution for consumers, civil penalties and court costs.

Koster reminded consumers they can contact the Motor Vehicle Division of the Missouri Department of Revenue to research the history of a car's title.

The lawsuit against Clark's Automotive was the result of a joint effort by Koster's office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Department of Revenue and the Kansas City Police Department.
