HARTFORD, Conn. (Legal Newsline) - A candidate hoping to replace Richard Blumenthal as Connecticut's attorney general may be asking for his opinion on whether she is qualified to run.
Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz wrote Blumenthal on Friday, requesting he determine if she has submitted 10 years of active practice of the law in the state, as is required of candidataes, the
Hartford Courant reported.
Critics had question if Bysiewicz met that requirement. She has been secretary of state since 1998 and recently decided to run for attorney general instead of governor.
A Democrat, she made that decision after Blumenthal decided to run for U.S. Senate. Blumenthal is trying to take the place of Chris Dodd, who announced he will not seek re-election.
Blumenthal reportedly said Bysiewicz has not filed a request for a formal opinion yet.
Bysiewicz says her years as secretary of state should count toward the 10-year minimum.
